Taking Stock Nine Month Later

FullSizeRender-3It’s been nine months since I gave away my wedding crystal, discarded hundreds of moldy, faded photographs, and followed a psychic’s suggestion to move west.  What have I given birth to?  How have I grown?

A few years ago someone asked me what I did for fun and, sadly, I couldn’t think of anything.  I am now aware of the importance of having fun, but it’s not the activity that is fun, it is your attitude.  I find myself smiling in the strangest places, like at CVS or the car wash or walking down the street listening to birds.  I expect people to be friendly and happy to see me…and they are.  We have to be aware of what we expect and how much goodness we will allow.  This weekend I went to a Native American museum tour and picnic lunch not knowing anyone or anything about the museum and left with three email addresses of potential friends.  I must admit that I was uncomfortable in the beginning since it looked like I was the only one who was there without a friend, but that quickly changed as we all felt inspired by the art.

How my sense of style has evolved!  Today I threw on my brown sweat pants and hot pink sweatshirt, the outfit that makes me feel like a raspberry parfait, and went to a yoga class.  Not matching, but putting my unique stamp on yoga couture.

I feel free to explore and to try new things, to go where I haven’t gone before, to open up to love and possibilities.  I am saying yes to some experiences and no to others.  I am amazed at how what we nourish and nurture blooms before our very surprised eyes.

I was just wondering where you went to…but I see you’ve been exploring Happytown! How wonderful! I’m going to share this with my friend who is pulling up roots and moving to Florida and has been getting the same stress and feelings you were going through but has always known she belongs there. thanks Ellie for sharing and for popping up once again!
BTW, have you been creating anything new with your artistic talents?

This past year my home has been my work of art. We’ll see where my creative energy bubbles up next! Thanks for asking, Barbara. And, thanks so much for passing this post on to your friend.

I remember the photo you posted about one year ago as you were preparing to go on a hike. Maybe the first hike in your new home. Your outfit and you were perfectly coordinated and you looked like the subject of a fashion magazine photo shoot. I commented about that look. I’m gratified to hear your evolution into your new understanding about yourself. Don’t throw away all those NY clothes but understand they’re not what is the important thing.
