Soup Secrets

IMG_5034I took a cooking class.  Me, who cooks all the time, but usually in one pan. Me, who at the moment is heating up leftover rice and salmon for breakfast.

The name of the class was Soup Secrets.  Half of the class made a corn chowder and the other half made French onion soup.  At the end, we each got a bowl of both.  We learned the difference between broth, cream, puree, bisque and chowder, as well as how to hold a knife, chop an onion, and the importance of good stock.

Wow!  So much information!  So much to learn!  But, it was really fun, and I met a new neighbor and potential friend.  I want to sign up for Chinese-Indian Fusion, One Pot Meals, Cheese Making and the Chocolate Workshop for sure.  I wish that I took a picture of our soups, but I was too busy enjoying them.

Are you cooking this weekend?  Enjoy!

What great fun! I love making soups, I do it every weekend so I have lunch to bring to work. today was creamy broccoli soup and black bean and salsa soup. I also use these over pasta, rice or potatoes, yummy. Tomorrow all of us from my mom’s side of the family will gather together for brunch. I was thinking of making breakfast burritos to take but then I discovered some phyllo dough in the freezer. and a new spice my daughter gave me for Christmas (Ras El Hanout). Hummmm Not sure how it will taste but I combined onions, garlic, green peppers, spinach, cubed potatoes and tofu with spices. Tomorrow I’ll put this all together and hopefully I’ve created something very good!

I voted on the creamy mushroom, but I also liked a cold crab and cactus soup (it was very inventive), and the white chocolate soup was yummy! There was also a root vegetable soup with a dollop of pureed parsnips and raspberry jam.

Ooops! I thought I was replying to the Souperbowl post on Facebook. I liked the corn chowder better, although they were both great.
