Baby Elephant and the Ocean

IMG_6303I saw a video on Facebook of a baby elephant experiencing the ocean for the first time.  It was delightful!  He romped around, jumped through the waves, dug his face into the sand, splashed, rolled over and stood on his head with his hind feet sticking out of the water.  I could feel his ecstasy!  Even the person taking the picture was laughing.

Then I read the comments below.  One woman said that she cried for all of the elephants who were chained in circuses.  I was astonished.  How could she waste that precious moment of joy and discovery and lightness by being sad for others who didn’t have that experience?  This is not a perfect world.  Some animals are not free to enjoy such spontaneous exploration.  While I understand having compassion for animals in captivity, I also value sharing in others’  joy.  Being a vessel for spreading good feelings is just as important as being aware of its opposite.  It’s okay to be happy and playful!

I agree! So many people cut off the flow of joy in so many ways. this was one example. We all know the people who when you mention what a lovely day it is, will respond about how it will rain later. I just bless them in their thoughts and smile at my wonderful day!

Yes. I can relate to both sides… and a person with anxiety would watch in fear she may be swept away by the riptide if out too far. 🙂 Catch it on youtube.
