Surprise at the Farmer’s Market

IMG_5034I look forward to the Farmer’s Market all week. Local vendors bring whatever is in season…red, black (yes, a black variety) and green apples, chilis, beets, pears, arugula, and bean sprouts cut off at the time of purchase. All fresh and organic, of course. Children eating beef sausages on a stick and cups of local Taos ice cream.

I parked my car, grabbed my canvas bag and reached into my wallet to get a dollar to pay for parking. I glanced at the dollar and saw that someone had written “Follow Your Dreams” on it. How exciting! It was a wonderfully random and unexpected message. I used another dollar to pay for parking and made my way toward the market with the sun blazing on my back and the dollar bill with the special wish tucked in my pocket.

The first stand I stopped at was run by an elderly couple selling their vegetables. They were weary of standing – even the shade was hot – for hours and were looking forward to the end of the market. Their produce was looking peaked, but I found some hearty Swiss chard and put it in my bag. The charge was one dollar. I took the special dollar out of my pocket and showed it to the lady. Her face lit up. I told her that it was for her. She thanked me profusely and showed her husband. I took my chard and went on feeling the glow of receiving a gift and giving it away, staying in the flow of joy and abundance.   Ya never know where inspiration is going to come from!
