Beautiful Us

FullSizeRender-10At the end of the qigong class with my mother, the group got in a circle and turned to the person on the left and the one on the right and said, “Thank you for your practice.”  Then each person blessed the space leaving just my mother on a chair and me at her feet.  She and I had shared a profoundly spiritual experience, unique and emotional, leaving us vulnerable and open to tremendous love.

I let my mom rest on the chair as I went into the restroom to wash my hands.  When I looked in the mirror, I was shocked by how beautiful I was.  Am I allowed to say that?  Now, let me add that I am as critical as anyone when I pass by a mirror, which seems to witness and magnify all of the things that are wrong with my appearance.  This is the first time that I remember feeling a light glowing from inside and seeing it on the outside.  It was more than body identification.  It was the marriage of peace and acceptance, love and unity, openness and inner light.  We all have it, and it is one of our most precious gifts.

I hope that sometime today you will look in a mirror and see how beautiful you are.  Feel your inner light and see it in your reflection.  Then, if you are comfortable, share it in a comment.  I would love to hear about it.

And, if you are wondering what is going on in this picture, I am petting baby goats after I fed them with a bottle!
