The Chinese word for crisis is made up of two characters: danger and opportunity. I find that in every challenging experience there is an opportunity to grow and to learn. If I can get over the fact that I didn’t ask for the pain or difficulty, I often see a new path that is illuminated with greater clarity, a path that sets me on a trajectory that was totally unforeseen…out of the box and life changing.
This new direction offers choices and possibilities that I hadn’t thought of. When I give up the urge to control knowing the outcome, I can jump in and explore the new ideas with creative vision. They become adventures that build on themselves, like a sliver of light under a door tempting me to go ahead and open it. When I open the door, gifts come tumbling down in strangely wrapped boxes. Not knowing better, I might discard them like unwanted clutter. But if one bumps me on the head, I take notice and find it filled with exciting opportunities, begging me to take the leap and trust that I will land on firm ground.
Have any gifts bumped you on the head recently?
