Your Inner Journey

Have you ever admired someone so much that you want to copy their accomplishment or get so close that some of that enthusiasm might rub off onto you? Maybe you can tag along to catch a splash of positive energy that might spill over, or just take a small piece out of their huge pie.

Here’s why that wouldn’t be as satisfying as you might expect. What you admire is their journey to get there, not the end result. The courage and risks that they took, the decisions made along the way, their willingness to examine themselves and admit their vulnerabilities and still move forward in the face of fear is what attract you. You can’t catch that by hanging out with them.

I heard Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love tell an audience member that it wasn’t necessary to go to Italy, India or Indonesia to shake up her life and Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild, would be the first person to say that you don’t have to hike the Pacific Rim to have an epiphany. It is an inner trek laden with honesty, faith in your Spirit, and downright guts.

You have your own special path. Go ahead and take it.  Be attentive to how your inner journey of change drops you deeper into yourself.  No one will do it quite like you.  And, who knows, maybe your courage and lessons learned will inspire others.
