Everyone seems to be talking about the book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” by Marie Kondo. Her premise is that we all have too much stuff that weighs us down, diminishes the flow of love from our hearts to our surroundings, and makes it impossible to locate and enjoy our possessions. A friend gave me the book and I am now engrossed in it. Marie addresses our outdated and unloved clothes, things that we say to ourselves such as “I’ll get to it someday” and that “someday” never comes, papers, CDs, instruction booklets, and sentimental gifts and mementos with clarity and concrete ideas how to save us from ourselves.
I have decided to be your guinea pig and test out her methods myself. Today is the starting day, but I got distracted steaming all of the vegetables in the refrig, oiling the dining room table, and now writing this post. (I didn’t get to the chapter on procrastination yet.) I am determined to start with my closet tonight and report back to you. I have to empty all of my clothes onto the floor and pick up each piece and ask myself if it sparks joy. Wish me luck! Bye for now.
I love that you will be focusing on JOY!
ahh! good luck! can’t wait to look through your give away pile :)!
