The Truth About Believing

Last week I attended a conference called “Ageless Living” featuring speakers from the scientific, spiritual and experiential realms. One was more exciting than the next as they presented cutting edge information that supported different ways to understand life and aging.

One of my favorites was Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of “The Biology of Belief”.  His work for the last fifty years explodes our concept of genes and the role that they play in healthy living.  He explained how DNA is merely the blueprint to make proteins. Genes do not control biology. They have no action. They can be activated by our beliefs or not activated.

Dr. Lipton’s research shows that cells receive messages from receptor proteins in the membrane that send information from the environment into the cell through a channel. That is how the cell gets activated, not through the nucleus or genes. He goes on to say that our minds and perceptions control the chemistry of the blood which gives directions to the cells. “Our beliefs carry more power than our reality.” That is…the real beliefs that send out their own vibrations, not the words that we say and want to believe but sometimes fall short of actually believing.

Placebo treatments heal one third to two thirds of all diseases that are tested because patients truly believe that they will be healed. These ideas are revolutionary to some and might be hard to accept. I think that we will be hearing much more to support these concepts in the near future.

I heard some of the same themes from all of the speakers, and the primary one was that love is the nourishment of life. Love heals. Love fosters growth. Our hearts have 40,000 specialized cells that think independently from our brains. Whenever you need to make an important decision, shift your awareness from your mind to your heart by putting your hand on your heart and breathing slowly. It signals your body that you are safe.

I am still sifting through all of the inspiring information and learning how to apply it in everyday life. I am excited about the prospect of having more influence over my health and wellbeing. I hope that you are, too.
