The Tale of Two Hardware Stores

There are two hardware stores – Big Jo and Ace. I love going into Big Jo and look for any reason to go there. When I am driving by I ask myself if I need light bulbs or glue or tape. On the other hand, I will use any excuse to avoid going into Ace. “I don’t have time.” Or, “There might not be a parking space.” Or, “They probably don’t carry what I need.”

Why? The energy is different – one is appealing to me and the other is repelling. Maybe it is the lighting or placement of displays or attitude of the staff. Whatever are the reasons, I have a visceral attraction to one and an aversion to the other.

If I react to the energy of the hardware stores, then I must have similar feelings about other places and people without being aware of them. I think that we all do. Do you ever go to a gathering and find yourself avoiding certain people? You might think that it is the way they look or what they are saying, but I think it’s also their energy. We exude energy that reflects our thoughts and attitudes. People pick up on our feelings of being open, interested in learning about others, and peaceful as opposed to unsatisfied, untrusting, distracted and distant. As I become aware of this, I am finding it easier to sense a person’s core sooner avoiding a long process of trying to make a relationship work when our basic attitudes are divergent. Like attracts like…and all we have to do is sit back, take a deep breath and believe what we feel.

Hi you are spot on about the energy of people. I would just add to give people enough time to allow for the times our natural state can get out of balance due to outside stressors. These temporary shifts of energy often set off a chain reaction in our interactions. So for example if I am nervous in a social setting, my energy shows as aloof. When really I’m just hoping someone would help me break the ice! After a little more time with someone then I think we can fully trust what we are sensing energetically.
    Thanks for your thoughtful blog!
