The Nature of Louie Schwartzberg

IMG_2713Last week on Super Soul Sunday, Oprah featured Louie Schwartzberg, a cinematographer who specializes in nature films.  His time-lapsed pictures of the grandest and tiniest parts of our earth create spectacular films.  I highly recommend looking him up on youtube.  His camera zooms in on a meadow swarming with monarch butterflies and a nest of bees revealing each hair on their furry legs.  He has become active in publicizing the importance of protecting bees so that they can continue to pollinate our food chain.

His work celebrates procreation, survival and joy.  Nothing escapes his lens.  He examines a hummingbird in spiral flight as it stalks its prey, cloud patterns racing across a sprawling landscape, the agonizingly slow drop of water falling off a leaf, flowers opening and closing like fingers revealing a bare palm, and a deep and intimate look at people’s faces.  It is so inspiring!   Look him up and then go outside, find an animal to stalk, and tell me about it!
