The Land of Enchantment

photo 2-3What a strange place this is.  Santa Fe is called “The City Different” and “The Land of Enchantment.”  Now I know why.  It is like Pleasantville, except more genuine.  My electrician also promotes the county fair.  My waiter doubles as a real estate agent.  I was taking out the garbage and a plumber driving by waved and said hi.  I was swimming laps and a woman who passed me several times asked if she was disturbing my rhythm.  I’m not used to such consideration.  I asked a friendly woman behind the counter at the community center if she knew how strange this friendliness is.  Of course she didn’t know what I was talking about.  I’m not complaining.  I’m kind of getting the hang of it.  Now I chat with people in line at the market, exchange recipes with a man waiting at the fish counter, and give all employees the highest rating on surveys because they are so very considerate and helpful.  I’m beginning to expect to be treated kindly and I enjoy treating others with warmth and friendliness.  Try it.  It’s kind of fun!

Wish I could say the same of Berkeley. I love it here, but for other reasons…Must double my efforts to make contact with the busy world.

I am sure there are pockets of wonderful friendly people everywhere looking for this “city wide feeling”. So sad that people sometimes look at you as odd, for just being friendly.

    Sounds wonderful…

Believe it or not, I have the same enchanted, friendly experiences here in Brooklyn and most recently on subways and buses. But yesterday I got a car, so no more subway/bus fun for me 🙂 Sante Fe sounds magical too! Lol blessings
