A Qigong master tells us that we have to step back before we can move forward. In martial arts a punch begins with a step backward. A pitcher winds up before he releases the ball. Momentum doesn’t come from standing still. Stepping back is part of forward movement, a cycle that is alive and creative.
I am in that backward stance…quiet, listening, regrouping, wondering where I go from here. Yesterday I felt lonely and sad. Today I am accepting this feeling as an opportunity to be gentle and compassionate to myself. The inspiration, the teacher, the lesson always comes, I just have to trust that it is there and allow it in. Today I am the student.
I love the idea that stepping backward is part of a forward movement. I often beat up on myself when I step back or look back. But to see it as part of a forward cycle is much nicer and kinder.
May your backward stance bring you to the next creative place.
Thanks, Annina!
