Silence as a Sanctuary

IMG_4360After a tragedy like in Orlando, an assault against humanity, there is so much talk about it.  There’s the event and the discussion in its aftermath where everyone weighs in with their thoughts on pertinent and tangential topics.  It’s on everyone’s mind and on the tips of their tongues as it was a trauma shared by all of us.

Sometimes those discussions shed light on new information and other times they are unsatisfying, everyone giving their opinions without regard for how they are received.  It’s times like that when silence can provide comfort and solace.  There is a time and place for being still and sitting with feelings.  Silence can clear your mind and let inner consciousness soothe you.  When you need a break from hearing too many differing viewpoints on tv or from engaging in empty chatter turn to the calm of silence for refuge, peace and clarity.

Ansel Adams said, “When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs.  When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
