Running From the Universe

My friend and I had some differences.  They got exasperated in a phone call wrought with hurt feelings and misunderstood intentions.  The more we talked the worse it got.  It felt like pulling teeth from a gnarly ogre.  Just plain ugly.  We decided not to talk for a few days and let things settle.  But that was not what the Universe had in store for me.

The Universe tapped me on the shoulder and said, “It’s time to deal with this again.”

“Later, I’m doing my taxes,” I replied.

Tap, tap, tap. “You are going to work this out NOW.”

“I can’t. The sink is filled with dirty dishes.  After I finish my taxes and do the dishes.  Be there in a minute.”

“Now is the best time,” the Universe reminded me. “It won’t be any easier later.”

“But didn’t I already learn that lesson last year?” I cajoled.

“YOU NEED TO LEARN IT AGAIN NOW!”

My friend called me back and we began to better listen to each other’s feelings and work it out.   Moral of the story – don’t mess with the Universe.  It’s timing is impeccable.  You don’t stand a chance in refusing anyway.  It has an infinite number of ways to get your attention.
