Michael Franti Inspires

FullSizeRender-5Last night I saw Michael Franti at a lawn concert in Santa Fe.  I knew a little about his music but was more interested in him and his message of oneness, positivity and inclusion. What a powerhouse!  I was bobbing in a sea of people swaying and jumping up and down.  After two hours of singing and dancing (and walking a mile each way to the venue), I came home and soaked in an epsom salts bath.

Michael didn’t stay on stage.  He walked through the audience in his bare feet and pulled up people to dance with him.  He didn’t reach out to the beautiful ones, but to ordinary people of every age, color and shape.  He handed the mic to elders and children, and hugged a woman whom he sensed needed it at that moment.  During one of his songs he invited a girl with Down’s Syndrome onto the stage to sing with him.  He met her during his yoga class yesterday and she told him that she likes to sing, so that night he made her dream come true.  The audience went wild cheering.

It is our good fortune to live among people who choose to be a positive force in our world, who honor and accept differences between people and who refuse to let negativity diminish their spirits.  Read them, listen to them, play with them, let their appreciation wash over you and bring you to your highest self.  I do and it feels really good!  It also attracts more of the same. When you open the door just wait til you see who comes rushing in.
