Get Down and Dirty

Untitled II“Maximize what you have instead of waiting to meet someone who sees what you have. Entrusting other people to give you something that you ought to give yourself is giving away your power. Know who you are and maximize what you have and you will be less hungry for others to see you because you fed yourself before you met them.” Sacred and inspiring words from Bishop T.D. Jakes!

He also says that when you put your destiny in the hands of someone else that is bankruptcy of the soul. Something inside needs to be fed, electrified, stirred and illuminated. Get the shame, guilt, worry and busy-ness out of your mind. Everything that happened to you yesterday got you to where you are today.

I made this sculpture years ago depicting a woman about to sort through her roots and discard all that no longer speaks of her.  It is a strong and determined upheaval.  In a way it illustrates what Bishop Jakes says and reflected my burning need to grow into myself.

Today I’m inspired and revved up! He gets it. I’m ready to dig down and get dirty! It’s going to be a productive weekend. How about you? Do his thoughts speak to you?

I remember seeing this sculpture and the powerful emotions it stirred up in me. Today as I look at it, I see her grasping the new, the unexplored and breaking free to a new life!
Interesting how our perspective changes as we grow. 🙂

That’s so interesting how things changed for you. Anais Nin said that we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.
