Another Chance

My son and daughter-in-law received this email from their seven-year-old’s teacher:

We have a funny emergency situation. Your daughter lost her tooth today but does not want you to know so she can see if the tooth fairy is real! We want to keep her confidence, but we also thought you should know :))

Of course my granddaughter was so excited that she told her parents as soon as she got home. It would have been a hard fact to hide since it was her front tooth.

It is so interesting (and funny) to watch children learn about their world – how they discern what is real and what is not, who to trust and what to doubt. I love being an observer, trying to remember what it was like before I had beliefs that I take as truth. I try to let that innocence trickle down into my already-formed perceptions and dislodge crusty nuances so fresh air and ideas can reformulate. I feel like I’m getting another chance to learn through my grandchildren.
