A Pile of Diplomas

I am doing so much work on myself that it boggles my mind. If I got a degree for each course of study on myself I would have earned a post doctoral, three-theses, advanced study pile of diplomas.  But every time I examine my behavior, step up to the plate and take responsibility I feel stronger and more of my true self.  Others might even be motivated to evaluate their unconscious reactions and find the courage to try some changes, wanting some of the benefits of transformation, too.

My most recent assessment came while reading a book by Judith Orloff called The Empath’s Survival Guide in which she identifies the traits of an empath as one who not only has empathy for other people but actually takes on their feelings. Empaths need a survival guide! You might recognize some patterns in yourself if you are uncomfortable in large groups, anxious around small talk, or overwhelmed at a crowded train station.  Empaths need to learn how to protect themselves from the bombardment of stimulation and also to relish their extreme sensitivities.

If you are looking at yourself and are sifting through past behavior to whittle down to your true essence, congrats to you! It’s not easy, but much more fulfilling than unconsciously going along with someone else’s view of who you are.
