A New Look at Destiny

Destiny. Every time I hear that word I think of the elusive thing that I am supposed to get to but haven’t quite grasped. It is the tantalizing concept that is just out of reach, frustrating and alluring. Sometimes I feel that it is suspended in the ethers waiting for my evolution to mature, like I could spend a lifetime getting closer but never knowing just how to be one with it.

Luckily for me, and for you, my teacher presents a different view of destiny, one that speaks of the unique qualities that make us who we are. In every moment that you are faced with the need to make a decision (and we are constantly making decisions about what to eat, watch, read, say to someone, who to accept as a partner, how to do our jobs) you are expressing your destiny with that choice. Your uniqueness is your destiny. What makes you you is your destiny. What you choose to experience – your particular choices separate from a mere reaction to stimulation – is the seed of you. Each path that you choose is either expressing your destiny or is denying it, and squeezing into the box of someone else’s expectation of you is not living in the fulness of you. Your path is your truth, and no one can tell you what it should be. Even faltering along that path is an expression of your destiny. I believe that as we learn and grow we fine-tune our destinies. In that sense they change, or maybe changing is an integral part of a destiny.

Whether you celebrate Passover, Easter, the just-past full moon, or spring, this feels like a time of renewal and possibilities created by a fresh perspective.  I offer these ideas to you as food for thought. Plant them and nurture them in your own way.  You will be creating a new expression of who you are.
