You Are the Unique-est

Let’s talk about you…unique…like no one else in the world…you. You don’t fit into a box, so don’t even try to squeeze into one. It will hurt.

What do I mean? Just because you like something, doesn’t indicate or predict your other preferences. You are free to discover more about yourself every day and adjust your activities accordingly.

Last weekend, I spent two days on the dusty grounds of a local qigong center attending Unity Fest. It was run by a group from Colorado and it’s premise is that they don’t hate or exclude anyone and they employ peaceful means in dealing with each other. It was populated by kids with dreadlocks, numerous piercings and tattoos that I couldn’t imagine and long tied-dyed skirts. I was clearly out of my element, but I chatted with people running the booths about their communes and locally grown organic snacks.

The most poignant moment was when a young man was behaving in a way that made the organizers call the police. Some people said that he was having a bad trip. I don’t know. But, the way it was handled was eye-opening. The police approached this guy slowly and peacefully. After talking for awhile they asked him to stand up so they could frisk him before taking him off to a van for treatment. As they were frisking him, a member of the group smudged the cops – that is a native American ceremony of using smoke from burning sage to rid the person of negative energy. What a sight! The cops engulfed in smoke frisking a kid.

I went home, took a quick shower, and attended a party with friends celebrating those with Virgo birthdays. It was lively and full of friendship and delicious food. One part of my day did not inform what the rest would be like. I have the freedom to enjoy exploration and relationships in my own unique way, and so do you.
